High reaches of Himachal receive fresh snowfall, windstorms, and light rain in the low-line areas

The cold wave intensified in mid hills of Himachal Pradesh after fresh snowfall on the high reaches of Lahaul Spiti and a few places of Kangra, Chamba, Kullu, and Kinnaur districts in the state on Sunday.

Report arriving here said that high passes of Lahaul Spiti including Baralach, Kunzum, and Rohtang pass received a major spell of snowfall and three main roads are snowbound in the Lahaul Spiti district.

Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert of moderate rainfall and an isolated heavy spell with thunderstorm and gusty wind(speed 30-40kmph) likely to continue in the Sirmaur district at Ponta Sahib, Kamaru, Shalai, and Renuka for the next one to two hours. Light to moderate rainfall may occur.

In the next three to four hours. It said that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in many places with thunder and lightning in Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Mandi, and Kul districts.

Light to moderate rainfall could occur at some places in Solan, Shimla, Kinnaur, Chamba, Lahaul, and Sapiti districts. 

Light drizzling, windstorms, and clouds are hovering in the sky. Air & Road transport is hit partly in the hill. 

According to a press release issued by Lahaul Spiti police confirmed that vehicular traffic is disrupted on National Highway -3  is Open from Koksar to Darcha but it is closed between Darcha to Sarchu due to snowfall, Darcha – Shinkula road and NH-505 Samdo-Kaza -Gramphu is open from Sumdo to Losser but it is closed between Losser to Chota Darra road.

 Currently, it was raining in many places in the Lahaul Spiti and light to moderate snowfall also occurred in the last 24 hours in other districts including Dhauladhar ranges of Kangra, Manimesh of Chamba, Kinner Kailash of Kinnaur district.

The railway and other services are running normally. The cold waves have increased in high altitude and mid hills plunging down the mercury in many places.

The inclement weather is attributed to Western disturbances and will continue to affect the state for the next two days. According to Agriculture experts early rain and snowfall would be beneficial for the early sowing of Rabi crops and off-season vegetables.

The farmers sow pea, barely, wheat, and mustard oil during the autumn season in the state. 

The farmers are currently busy cutting off fodder to store for the winter season likely to hamper due to inclement weather. The restoration work continues after the monsoon season also likely to hamper further.
