High reaches of Himachal get fresh snowfall, Monsoon to make departure soon

The high peaks of Lahaul Spiti district were wrapped by the fresh two to three-inch snowfall in Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours.

The IMD attributes feeble monsoon and western disturbance for fresh snowfall on the high reaches.

There report of fresh snowfall on the high peaks of Himachal Pradesh since night however most of the roads and highways are open.

More than two to three inches of a white sheet of snow could be visible over the Baralacha Top on Manali-Leh road.

 The fresh snowfall is also being reported on the Sarchu passes ahead of Baralach causing the  Highway slippery but it is still through. The traffic between Sarchu-Leh remained disrupted for a few hours now restored. The Administration stated that if snowfall continues for a few more days may lead to further disruption.

The Mercury is freezing under subzero temperatures in the high mountain peaks and almost touch freezing points in district headquarters soon. This may intensify the cold in the area. The Winter has already knocked on the door of people in the high-line areas of the state. 

However, snowfall in the monsoon season brought cheers to the faces of tourists who had already thronged at Baralacha and snow areas of the state.

According to Met forecast weather in the Lahaul Spiti may remain clear today including tourist resort Manali.

It was partly cloudy to mainly clear in Shimla however it was chill in the wee hours. According to IMD monsoon may make departure till October 3 as it is slowly receding from many places of North West Himalayan states now.

The state witnessed delayed departure and prolonged spells of monsoon rain as normally it gets departure by September 18 to 20 normally.

The monsoon was mainly subdued on the hind ends the last 35 days were mainly deficient of rain. The departure of the monsoon is certain in the next one or two days.

 Its official announcement will be made by the IMD. According to Meteorological Center Shimla, the weather would remain dry across the state till October 3. This may lead to a slight rise in temperature.

According to Met Dara in Month of September had 41 percent less rainfall than normal.

The state receives an annual rainfall of 117.4 mm however in this month from  1 to it was around cumulative rain of 70 mm in the entire this September.

Kangra is the only district where there have been 4 percent more clouds than normal in September. 

All other districts received less than normal rainfall. This time in Lahaul Spiti district, there was 82 percent less rainfall than normal in September. However, snowfall has also occurred once in the higher-altitude areas of the district.

Whereas in Solan district, there was 70 percent less rainfall than normal in September, 67 pc in Shimla and Kinnaur, 50 pc in Mandi, 3 pc in Bilaspur, 29 pc in Chamba, 16 pc in Hamirpur, 40 pc in Kullu, 38 pc in Sirmaur and Una. 

The mountains received much less rainfall than normal in September, but during the entire monsoon season, there was 21 percent more rainfall than normal. Normally, from June 1 to September 27, there is 731.2 mm of normal rainfall, but this time there was 884.9 mm of rainfall, which is 21 percent more than normal.

In this also, most of the rain occurred between July 7 to 11, then August 13 to 15, and August 22 to 24. This has also been a major reason for the devastation, this time the amount of rain was vigorous from  15 to 20 days in the season.
