While inaugurating the conference of Shimla urban unit of Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti, the state secretary of the Samiti Satyawan Pundir, while discussing the ‘Save Youth Campaign’ run by the Samiti, said that today the most energetic and productive ‘youth’ section of our society is going through a serious crisis. Due to many reasons like pressure from friends, hobby, curiosity, consumption by mistake, imitation, pressure of studies and job, pressure of family and society, pressure of office and work, frustration due to unemployment etc., a large part of our young generation is getting into the grip of drugs.
He informed that the committee is completing 33 proud years of its establishment on 23 November. On this occasion, the committee is going to celebrate its foundation day in Shimla in which on one hand, a ‘cultural gathering’ of artist workers will be organized and on the other hand, an ‘honor ceremony’ will be organized for the office bearers of the committee who are playing their role as ‘social capital’ even after completing 80 years of age today.
Retired psychologist Dr Ravi Bhushan said that counselling of families, parents and children and social environment also play a big role in dealing with the problem of drug addiction. Dr Ravi said that parents need proper advice and counselling regarding the upbringing of their children.
Retired Welfare Officer Sumitra Chandel said that the committee needs to prepare students, teachers and parents through educational institutions to deal with this serious problem by deeply studying various scientific aspects related to drug addiction.
Youth activist and folk singer Kapil Sharma said that our social, religious and cultural events are also responsible for giving social recognition to drug addiction, where drug addiction is given social acceptance.
Rameshwar Sharma, who has served in the CBI, said that although the police and narcotics departments have an important role in stopping the supply of drugs, it is insufficient.
On the occasion of this conference, a 13-member committee was formed in which Govind Chataranta was made the president, Rameshwar Sharma the vice-president, Sumitra Chandel the secretary and Kapil Sharma the treasurer.
