Heroin Seized: NIT Hamirpur Lab Attendant Among Three Arrested

Hamirpur Police apprehended three individuals, including a lab attendant employed at NIT Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, recovering 10.67 grams of heroin (commonly known as Chitta). The incident led to the registration of a case at the Sadar police station in Hamirpur. The seizure occurred at the Jambala outpost in Hamirpur.

The individuals involved were identified as Rajneesh Sharma from Garg Niwas, New Model Town, Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Vishal Raj from Anu Khurd, and Sunil Sharma from Ghariana Brahmana Chowki, Jambala Tehsil, Hamirpur. They have been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

Of note, one of the arrested individuals was employed as a Lab Attendant at NIT Hamirpur. Further investigation revealed that Vishal Raj, another suspect, also served as a Lab Attendant at the same institution. Additionally, Vishal Raj’s father holds the position of Head Technician in the Electric Wing, and his mother is employed as a Junior Draftsman at NIT Hamirpur.

SP Hamirpur Padam Chand confirmed that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.

The incident follows the tragic death of an M.Tech student from NIT Bilaspur four months prior,allegedly due to a drug overdose. Subsequently, police discovered Chitta on the NIT campus, implicating some NIT students in the case. Further reports are awaited.
