Harshwardhan Chauhan advocates for easing Tax payers compliances in  52nd GST Council meet at Delhi

The 52nd meeting of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman in New Delhi today. The Himachal Pradesh delegation was led by Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan.

It was decided in the meet to exempt Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) used in the manufacture of liquor from the levy of GST. ENA used in manufacture of liquor is presently subjected to 18% GST.

Participating in the discussions, the Himachal’s Industry Minister demanded that GST Council should also exempt ENA used for industrial purposes. from levy of GST. He further stated that exempting ENA from the levy of GST, irrespective of its usage, will result in simplifying compliances without having any adverse effect on revenue, which was appreciated by all present.

The HP delegation comprising Principal Secretary Excise, Bharat Khera, Commissioner Dr Yunus and Additional Commissioner Excise, Rakesh Sharma interacted with delegations from other states in order to understand best practices of their States with respect to enhancing GST revenue.

Industries Minister, while interacting with other State Ministers briefed that the Himachal Pradesh Government is committed to take all necessary measures for easing taxpayer compliances while ensuring transparent and effective implementation of GST.
