Governor Shukla flags off vehicles with relief material
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today flagged off three trucks carrying essential relief materials from Raj Bhavan, in response to the recent natural calamity that struck certain areas of Mandi district. The relief supplies are being sent through the State Red Cross Society to the Mandi district administration to provide assistance to the affected families.
The relief consignment includes 540 blankets, 500 tarpaulin sheets, 20 boxes of clothing, kitchen sets, buckets and other essential household items for the disaster-affected families.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed deep concern over the severe damage caused in Thunag and nearby areas, including the disruption of connectivity due to damaged roads, landslides and flash floods. He commended the efforts of the district administration, armed forces, NDRF, and SDRF teams for their tireless work in rescue and relief operations.
The Governor appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities and avoid creating obstructions at the rescue sites. “Local people have better knowledge of the terrain, and their cooperation is vital in ensuring that help reaches those in need quickly and efficiently,” he said. He added that he plans to visit the affected areas at an appropriate time to meet the victims and personally assess the situation.
Governor Shukla assured that relief efforts will continue through the Red Cross and, if necessary, more assistance would be arranged through appropriate channels. He urged the people of the State to come forward and extend all possible support to help the affected families. He also appealed to remain vigilant at their own level during this rainy season and urged the tourists not to venture too close to the rivers & rivulets.
Expressing concern over the frequent natural disasters occurring in the hilly regions of the State, the Governor emphasized the need to raise environmental awareness among citizens.
He further called upon all departments involved in infrastructure and policy-making to engage in consultations and formulate a comprehensive and sustainable strategy to safeguard the fragile ecology of the State.
Secretary to the Governor C.P. Verma was also present on the occasion.
