Government is giving Rs 3 lakh to sanitation workers to build houses: Sukhu

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said here today that the present state government is taking many effective steps for the welfare and upliftment of every section of the society, especially the weaker sections so that they can live their lives with dignity and comfort and bring about promising changes in their socio-economic status. The Chief Minister said that the State Government has decided to start ‘Maharishi Valmiki Kamgar Awas Yojana’ from this financial year to assist in construction of houses for the people and workers of Valmiki community. He said that under this scheme, the state government will provide financial assistance of up to Rs 3 lakh for construction of houses to those sanitation workers of Valmiki Samaj whose annual income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh and do not have their own house so that they can build their own house. And their living can be easy.

Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government has also increased the financial assistance provided for house construction under the ‘Chief Minister Widow and Single Women Housing Scheme’ from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, which will help widows and single women. Adequate funds should be available for construction of houses and their standard of living should improve. He said that the state government has made a provision to provide free education to the children of widows also so that their children are not deprived of qualitative education due to lack of resources and they can move ahead in life and achieve their goals as per their wish.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government has decided to allot houses to the weaker sections and slum dwellers living in the Municipal Corporations of Dharamshala, Solan and Shimla and Municipal Councils of Nalagarh and Parwanoo. He said that in this allocation, preference will be given to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, OBC category, widows, destitute women and disabled people.

Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the present government aims to ensure proper welfare and upliftment of the weaker sections of the society and bring them into the main stream of the society so that they do not feel neglected and can achieve their goals as per their wish in life and become socially and economically prosperous.
