Good News for Apple Growers: Central Government’s Historic Decision
A major relief has been announced by the Central Government for apple growers across the country, including Himachal Pradesh. In a historic and decisive move in favor of orchardists, the Modi government has increased the Minimum Import Price (MIP) on apples from ₹50 to ₹80 per kilogram. This decision came into effect on June 3, 2025, following approval from the Union Agriculture Minister.
This information was shared by Chetan Singh Bragta, the state spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), during a press conference held in Shimla today. He described this move as a reflection of the Modi government’s pro-farmer policies and strong determination.
Bragta stated that this decision would not only curb the unchecked influx of foreign apples but also pave the way for local apple growers to get fair prices. He called it a far-sighted and bold decision, a strong step toward securing the future of the country’s orchardists.
He reminded everyone that in 2023, the Modi government had first set the MIP for apples at ₹50 per kg, which was in itself a historic initiative. No previous government had ever implemented such a policy.
Chetan Bragta proudly mentioned that since 2018, not a single kilogram of apples has been imported from China into India. This is the result of the Modi government’s clear and strict policies, which prioritized self-reliance and strengthened local horticulture.
He also questioned the Congress-led state government, asking, “While the Central Government is taking such big decisions for farmers, what concrete steps has the Himachal Pradesh government taken so far for orchardists? Now is the time for the state’s apple growers to ask their government—what have you done for us?”
In conclusion, Chetan Singh Bragta said that these policies of the Modi government make it clear that the Central Government is fully committed to farmers’ income, their welfare, and the goal of a self-reliant India. These decisions have brought new hope and direction for apple growers.
