Global MPs Unite in Dharamshala to Voice Support for Tibet on Human Rights Day

On 10 December 2025—an occasion marked by three meaningful milestones: the 36th anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, International Human Rights Day, and the Year of Compassion—a parliamentary delegation from six countries came together for a joint press conference in Dharamshala.

The delegation included MPs Jitka Seitlová (Czech Republic), Barbara Pocock (Australia), Vlado Mirosevic (Chile), Samantha Cazebonne (France), Greg Fleming (New Zealand), and Virendra Lal (Fiji). Additional Secretary Tenzin Lekshay, spokesperson for the Central Tibetan Administration, welcomed the group and introduced them to the media.

Czech MP Jitka Seitlová opened the remarks by expressing solidarity with the Tibetan people. Drawing from her own nation’s history of oppression, she said the Czech Republic deeply understands the Tibetan struggle and strongly condemns reports of torture in Tibet. Visiting during the Dalai Lama’s 90th birth year, she said, felt especially meaningful, calling him a global guide whose wisdom the world needs.

Australian MP Barbara Pocock praised the cultural performances by Tibetan children earlier in the day. She reaffirmed Australia’s consistent stance on human rights and its support for Tibetans—both inside Tibet and in exile—to live without fear, pressure, or intimidation.

Chilean MP Vlado Mirosevic reflected on his recent audience with the Dalai Lama, where His Holiness explained the Middle Way Approach and the importance of dialogue between Tibetans and Chinese authorities. Mirosevic noted that Chile enjoys positive relations with China and does not wish to disrupt them, but firmly supports the Dalai Lama’s vision of peaceful dialogue for the benefit of both peoples.

French MP Samantha Cazebonne said her presence itself was a clear message of support for Tibet. She reiterated France’s commitment to the peaceful aspirations of the Tibetan people.

New Zealand MP Greg Fleming highlighted the remarkable efforts of the Tibetan exile community in preserving their culture and religion—treasures he said are disappearing inside Tibet. He stressed that Tibetans must have the right to pass on their heritage to future generations and live freely in their homeland. He also emphasised that China must not interfere in the selection of the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation.

Fijian MP Virendra Lal concluded the press conference by underscoring the importance of language as the foundation of identity. In a world increasingly in need of truth and equality, he said, collective global efforts are essential to uphold these universal values.
