Giving voting rights to MLAs in municipal elections is condemnable: Bindal
BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal said that strange decisions are being taken by the Himachal Congress government. Election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor is to be held in the Municipal Corporation and their term has expired. Notification of his election was not issued for a long time after the time period expired.
Dr. Bindal said that the state government issued a notification authorizing various ADCs to conduct municipal elections. ADC sought clarification from the state government regarding the voting of MLAs in the municipal elections. But after keeping this issue pending for a long time, the government clarified through a notification from the State Secretary that MLAs do not have the right to vote in the municipal corporation elections. After that ADC started the election process and MC Mandi elections were fixed for 25th November. Palampur MC elections were fixed for 24th November.
BJP state president said that after the notification is issued, another notification is issued by the government on the night of 23rd November in which it is said that MLAs are given the right to vote in the municipal elections. In such a situation, this decision has become a topic of discussion. Today there is voting for MC elections in Palampur and on 25th November there is voting in Mandi. Now in such a situation, the confusion is that which is the rule which will be used in both the situations, will the letter written by the State Secretary after the declaration of elections as a clarification that the MLAs do not have the right to vote, be used or will it be used last night? Will the decision taken be used?
Dr. Bindal said that the present Congress government is not following any rules and regulations and is taking decisions in a fabricated manner. Thus this government is killing democracy. He said that if the MLA has voting rights then the MLA can also become the mayor of the MC. The government is not making any difference in the elections of Municipal Corporation Councilor and MLA. BJP state president Rajiv Bindal has strongly condemned this decision of the Congress government.
