Freshers’ Program Organized to Welcome Rural Development Students in HPU’s Department of Lifelong Learning

A vibrant freshers’ welcome program was successfully organized by the third-semester students of the MA Rural Development program in the Department of Lifelong Learning at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU). The aim of the event was to extend a warm welcome to the new students and create an enthusiastic departmental atmosphere.
The chief guest for the event was the Department Head, Dr. Yashwant Hartta, under whose guidance the program was conducted. Other faculty members and PhD scholars of the department were also present. The event was adeptly hosted by third-semester Rural Development students, Sangam Thakur and Prakriti Agnidarshi. Students delivered diverse and colorful performances, including Pahari Nati, Bhangra, Gidda, solo songs, and item dances, which captivated all attendees. A talent round and a rapid quiz competition were also organized, based on which ‘Mr. Fresher’ and ‘Miss Fresher’ were selected.
In his address, the chief guest, Dr. Yashwant Hartta, motivated students to achieve success and emphasized the importance of perseverance, discipline, and a positive outlook in life. He stated that this event symbolized departmental unity and a positive start to student life, bringing immense joy to all present.
It is noteworthy that there has been a significant increase in demand for the MA Rural Development course in recent times. Due to the need for sustainable development and social reform in rural areas of the country, young students are showing a growing interest in this subject. Additionally, better employment opportunities and the rising trend of social entrepreneurship have made it even more relevant. At Himachal Pradesh University, this course offers not only academic but also practical training, making it aligned with contemporary needs. The popularity of this course indicates that the participation and contribution of youth in the field of rural development will strengthen further in the future.
