Fresh western disturbance to bring rain and hailstorm in Himachal

Himachal Pradesh Weather Update: Mild Conditions Prevail, New System Approaching. Over the past 24 hours, Himachal Pradesh has experienced relatively stable weather conditions, with no significant fluctuations in temperatures. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding a forthcoming Western Disturbance expected to impact the Western Himalayan Region from the evening of March 22nd, 2024.

Temperature Trends:

  • Minimal changes observed in both minimum and maximum temperatures.
  • Average minimum temperatures remained within the normal range, while average maximum temperatures were slightly above normal.
  • Notable temperature extremes include a minimum of minus 4.6°C in Keylong and a maximum of 30.4°C in Una.
  • Some stations recorded isolated rainfall, with Sundernagar receiving the highest amount at 9.5 mm. Additionally, trace amounts of snowfall were reported in Kufri.

Weather Phenomena:

  • Thunderstorm activity was documented in various areas including Shimla, Sundernagar, Bhunter, and Kangra.
  • Hailstorms occurred in Sundernagar.

Forecast Highlights:

  • March 21: Isolated thunderstorms with lightning and hail expected at select locations.
  • March 22 to 24: Scattered thunderstorms with lightning and hail anticipated at isolated spots.

A fresh Western Disturbance is anticipated to introduce further precipitation, including potential thunderstorms, to Himachal Pradesh beginning from the night of March 23rd. Lightning and hail are possible occurrences associated with these storms.
