Four-Year Imprisonment for NDPS Act Violation in Shimla
On Saturday, the Special Judge (Forest), Shimla, Mr. Jaswant Singh Thakur, sentenced a man to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 for violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. If the fine is not paid, an additional one-year simple imprisonment will be enforced.
The prosecution revealed that during a police patrol on the night of September 8, 2019, at approximately 12:30 am, officers moving from the old bus stand towards Krishna Nagar intercepted a young man near Rajvila Hotel. The individual, a 22-year-old resident of village Mashokari, District Shimla, was found carrying 15.09 grams of chitta (heroin) concealed in a polythene envelope in his backpack.
The accused was booked at Sadar Police Station under sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act. The police meticulously documented the proceedings at the scene and built a strong case against him. Throughout the trial, the prosecution presented statements from 20 witnesses to substantiate the charges.
This ruling underscores the judiciary’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotic offenses, serving as a stern reminder of the severe legal consequences associated with such crimes.
