Former CS Mitra passes away
Former Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Parthasarthi Mitra has passed away today. He was 66 yrs old and battling cancer for a long time. He was chief secretary of Himachal Pradesh till May 2016. Later he also held the post of Chief Information Commissioner in the Virbhadra government. P. Mitra was originally from Delhi. He also has properties in Theog and elsewhere in Himachal. P Mitra was a 1978 batch IAS officer. He was born in 1956. There are allegations that land was given to non-Himachalis by taking bribe in the year 2010-11. In this a case was registered under corruption. At that time there was Dhumal’s government and P Mitra was the principal secretary revenue. When he was the Revenue Secretary in the Dhumal government, he was accused of irregularities in granting approval for purchase of land under Section-118. With the coming of the Congress government, the matter went into cold storage. The closure report of the Vigilance was not accepted by the Sessions Court and then a fresh inquiry was conducted as soon as the Jairam government was formed. The Central Government had amended Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act. After this, it has become necessary to get approval from the government before investigation or action against any government officer-employee. Because of this, the Vigilance Bureau had sought permission from the state government to conduct an inquiry against Mitra. Mitra was also questioned by Vigilance several times in this matter.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has condoled the demise of former Chief Secretary and former State Election Commissioner P. Mitra who passed away at New Delhi today.
Chief Minister said that P. Mitra had performed his duties with devotion and dedication during his government service in various capacities besides as State Election Commissioner of Himachal Pradesh.
Jai Ram Thakur prayed the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss.
The IAS Officers’ Association of Himachal Pradesh expressed deep sorrow at the sad demise of P. Mitra former Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh on 27th April, 2022.Rakesh Kanwar, General Secretary of the Association said that P. Mitra belonged to the 1978 batch of IAS and served the State in different positions. He retired from the service as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Himachal Pradesh. Later, he also held the office of State Election Commissioner of Himachal Pradesh.The IAS Officers’ Association extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family at this moment of grief and prayed the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul.
