Five-Day Training Program on Library Automation Begins at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla
To promote technological advancement, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, in collaboration with the Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET), Gandhinagar, inaugurated a five-day training program on library automation today. The objective of this program is to provide library professionals with the latest technical knowledge and train them in the efficient use of SOUL 3.0 software.
Developed by INFLIBNET, SOUL 3.0 is widely adopted in academic libraries across India. The program has attracted the participation of approximately 50 library professionals from various colleges in Himachal Pradesh.
The event commenced at the institute’s Pool Theatre with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. In his welcome address, the Librarian and Program Coordinator, Mr. Prem Chand, highlighted the features of SOUL 3.0 software, stating, “This software simplifies and enhances library operations. Our aim is to empower participants to deliver excellent library services in their respective institutions.”
The lead trainer, Mr. Yatrik Patel from INFLIBNET, outlined the objectives and activities of the training program. Encouraging participants, he remarked, “The knowledge gained here should be utilized to provide better services to students and researchers.”
In his address, the Secretary of the institute, Mr. Mehr Chand, expressed gratitude to the INFLIBNET Director and the experts conducting the training. He urged participants to apply the practical knowledge gained during the workshop to improve their library services and user experiences.
The program will also include a special discussion on INFLIBNET’s “One Nation, One Subscription” initiative. This initiative aims to provide free access to e-journals from 30 leading publishers for universities and colleges across India.
The training program will conclude on January 17, 2025.
