First Time Congress MLA Kewal Singh Pathania appointed as Chief Whip
Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania appointed Congress first-time Member of Assembly from Shapur Kewal Singh Pathania as Chief Whip of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly with immediate effect.
In a notification issued by the secretary of Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Sharma stated that the Speaker has approved the appointment of Mr Pathania on the proposal of the state government under the HP Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip Act.
It is worthwhile to mention that after the crossing over of votes in the Rajya Sabha election recently and the disqualification of six MLAs Congress government is trying to control the further defection in the party legislature as now 34 members remain in the assembly with treasury benches. For the sake of majority marks further defection couldn’t be ruled out and three MLAs have been given plum posts in the government.
Apart from 11 members Council of Ministers including the chief minister, and deputy Chief minister, there are six Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, three chairman and vice chairmen, and one chief whip in the party however there number of plum posts still lying vacant in the government. Apart from this there are number of other non-elected party functionaries were appointed as political advisors, vice-chairmans OSD, and directors by the state government.
