Fair Transportation Rates for Apple Growers implemented by Shimla Admin

In a proactive move, the Shimla district administration has introduced transportation rates for apples, transitioning from a box-based to a kilogram-based system. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap’s decision, following consultations with Sub-Divisional Magistrates (Civil), the local Truck Operator Union, and the Apple Producers Association, aims to prevent overcharging and exploitation of growers during the critical harvest season.

The rates vary by sub-division. For example, six-wheeler trucks traveling from Sub-Division Theog to Delhi are charged 90 paise per kilometer, while smaller vehicles like Tata 407s and Eicher four-wheelers to Chandigarh incur a fee of Rs 1.50 per kilometer. Pick-up vehicles covering distances exceeding 20 kilometers are charged Rs 2.30 per kilometer.

Similar patterns apply in Sub-Division Rohru, where trucks to Delhi are priced at 90 paise per kilometer, and smaller vehicles to Chandigarh cost Rs 1.30 per kilometer. Pick-ups operating within a 20-kilometer radius are billed at Rs 2.50 per kilometer.

Sub-Division Dodra-Kwar maintains consistent rates of 90 paise per kilometer for trucks to Delhi and Rs 1.30 per kilometer to Chandigarh. Kotkhai and Jubbal sub-divisions follow suit, ensuring equitable pricing across the district.

These measures protect apple growers, guaranteeing fair compensation without hidden fees. Legal action will be taken against any truck operators or unions engaging in overcharging. The administration’s goal is to establish a transparent and just transportation system for the 2024 apple season, benefiting both growers and transporters.
