Every person should avoid tobacco consumption: Dr. Rakesh Pratap
World No Tobacco Day was celebrated at Government Excellent Senior Secondary School, Fagli, courtesy of the Health and Family Welfare Department. It was presided over by Chief Medical Officer, District Shimla, Dr. Rakesh Pratap. Head of the Department of Community Medicine, IGMC, Dr. Anmol Gupta was present as a special guest. This year’s theme of World No Tobacco Day is to protect children from the interference of the tobacco industry.
Addressing the children on this occasion, CMO Dr. Rakesh Pratap said that World No Tobacco Day is organized globally on 31st May every year as a public awareness campaign against the ill effects of tobacco use. Giving information, he said that diseases like mouth, lung, intestinal cancer, heart attack, respiratory disease, infertility, impotence, stillbirth, gangrene and blindness can occur due to tobacco consumption. To avoid these diseases, tobacco consumption should be avoided. He appealed to the general public to stay away from addiction, keep themselves free from stress, stay busy, do exercise and yoga daily and do not keep any kind of intoxicant in the house. On this occasion, Dr. Shabartan, Dr. Anuj, Dr. Shahnawaz provided detailed information to the children present on this year’s topic – protecting children from the interference of the tobacco industry through video presentation, speech and placard. On this occasion, health teachers Sanjana Dafrak and Meena Sharma administered oath to the children on anti-tobacco day and a spot quiz was also organized. Principal Amita Gupta distributed prizes to the winning children. On this occasion, all the children including all the teachers and non-teachers of the school participated.
