Empowering Rural Communities: Himachal Pradesh’s JICA Project

The JICA project (Japan International Cooperation Agency) initiated in Himachal Pradesh for forest ecosystem management and livelihood improvement is making a significant impact on the lives of rural people in the state. This initiative is helping them enhance their livelihoods and create better opportunities for the future.

Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor (Media), Naresh Chauhan, highlighted the project’s success during the release of JICA’s newsletter at their main office in Tutikandi (Shimla). He emphasized that the project, which spans seven districts—Kinnaur, Shimla, Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Lahaul-Spiti—over a duration of 10 years, aims to provide maximum employment opportunities to the state’s unemployed youth.

Project Director Shrestha Nand Sharma welcomed the chief guest and shared details of the various activities conducted by JICA. The newsletter showcases the successful activities carried out over the past three months, thanks to the dedicated efforts of subject matter experts, regional technical unit coordinators, and forest department officials.

Naresh Chauhan also released the 14th edition of the Hindi version of the newsletter and the English version of the new letter, congratulating the JICA project team for their hard work and dedication.

The event was attended by the Chief Director of the project and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Sameer Rastogi, biodiversity expert Dr. S.K. Kapta, and other officials and employees of the project and forest department.
