Dussehra festival will be organised in the grounds of Government Senior Secondary School, Junga
Keonthal Cultural Committee took permission from the High Court – Pankaj Sen
The princely Dussehra fair, traditionally celebrated in Junga, will be held this year from October 2nd to 4th, as per tradition, on the historic grounds of the Government Senior Secondary School. Permission has been granted by the Honorable High Court. Pankaj Sen, General Secretary of the Keonthal Cultural Committee, stated that the Dussehra festival has been celebrated in Junga since the princely era at the Government Senior Secondary School. The Honorable High Court has banned the holding of fairs and political events in educational institutions. Consequently, the Keonthal Cultural Committee filed a petition in the Honorable High Court to hold the fair on the school grounds, which the High Court has granted. It should be noted that nearly two years ago, after the High Court denied permission, the fair was held outside the palace of the then Keonthal State and in the Police Ground.
He said that since ancient times, Dussehra has been celebrated in this historic ground, where the tradition of the king of Keonthal state setting fire to the effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakarna still continues. Considering the ancient grandeur of the fair, the government has given it the status of a district level fair. In the past, this fair was celebrated only for one day, but the administration has made the fair attractive and extended it to three days. This is the only famous and traditional fair of Junga tehsil, where people from the entire state come to see the fair.
