Dussehra fair will be celebrated in Junga from 12 to 14 October

The ancient and traditional district level Dussehra fair of Keonthal state will be celebrated with great enthusiasm this year from 12 to 14 October in the historic school ground of Junga. In which apart from Lanka Dahan, cultural programs and wrestling will be the main attraction of the fair. Tehsildar and fair officer Narayan Singh Verma said that permission has been received from the Honorable High Court to organize the fair in the school ground.
It is worth noting that after the government gave the status of district level fair to this traditional fair about two years ago, it is being celebrated as a three day fair. The history of this fair is connected to the then Keonthal princely state. He told that according to the tradition, on 12th October, a tableau of Raghunath i.e. Thakurji will be taken out from Rajmahal Junga with drums and trumpets, which will be welcomed by the local people in the fair ground. In the evening, according to the tradition, the ruler of Keonthal princely state will burn the effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhkarna. Thereafter, Raghunath’s palanquin will be taken back to the palace.
On the second day of the fair, on October 13, cultural programs of all the schools of Junga area will be organized during the day and Star Night will be organized in the evening. Apart from this, sports activities and especially women’s tug of war competition will be organized during the day. On the last day of the fair, on October 14, a huge wrestling competition will be organized in which famous wrestlers of North India will participate.
