Indira Gandhi Medical College going for winter vacation which would likely affect the IGMC hospital health services as fifty percent of faculty members would go on leave in two batches.

According to IGMC Senior Medical Superintendent Dr Rahul Rao about 160 doctors of  IGMC Shimla are going on leave together.

It is expected that patients and their relatives have to face hard time in the future.

Senior MS of IGMC, Dr. Rahul Rao informed that the doctors would proceed on leave in two batches.

The first batch is going on leave from Dec 22nd Dec and 2nd batch is on leave from 31st January.

In the first batch, 160 doctors from 23 departments were on leave for 38 days. Only the remaining 50 percent of doctors would perform duty in the hospital.

He said that faculty members were given 38 days of annual vocation and each

year doctors go on winter vacation in IGMC.

Faculty members of the hospital get 38 days leave, while resident doctors get 30 days leave.

After they return to duty, the remaining 50 percent of doctors could proceed to leave.

IGMC has an OPD of 3200 to 3500 patients every day. Patients are referred to IGMC from hospitals not only in district Shimla but from all the 12 districts.

Due to 160 doctors going on leave together, patients would have to wait a long time for treatment in OPD. The biggest problem would be faced due to the leave of specialist doctors because many serious patients are seen only by specialist doctors.
