Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav and Dr. Rakesh Kumar participated in International Conference on Asian Medicines in Taipei

Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director of CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), and Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-IHBT, recently attended the Double Tenth joint conference organized by the International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicines (IASTAM) and the Asian Society for the History of Medicine (ASHM) in Taipei, Taiwan. This prestigious conference, held from June 20 to June 24, 2024, brought together over 300 experts, including scientists, medical practitioners, historians, and traditional medicine specialists from 29 countries worldwide.

During the conference, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav chaired a session, showcasing his expertise and leadership in the field. Meanwhile, Dr. Rakesh Kumar delivered an invited panel speech, highlighting CSIR-IHBT’s research on medicinal plants from the Himalayas. His presentation covered topics such as bioprospecting of Himalayan medicinal plants, preparation of standard extracts, in vitro analysis of phytomolecules, and bioactivity assays of promising plant fractions using in silico, in vivo, and ex vivo approaches.

In addition to their active participation in the conference, the CSIR-IHBT delegation visited the National Research Institute of Chinese Medicine (NRICM) in Taipei. This visit facilitated scientific exchange and collaboration discussions with Taiwanese counterparts. Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav and Dr. Rakesh Kumar also engaged in productive interactions with Mr. Manharsinh Laxmanbhai Yadav, Director General (Ambassador) of the India Taipei Association (ITA), and his staff. The discussions centered around exploring potential collaborations between CSIR-IHBT and Taiwanese institutions, emphasizing the mutual benefits of sharing technologies and research advancements.

Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav expressed optimism about the conference outcomes and the potential for future collaborations. He stated, “The Double Tenth conference has been a remarkable platform for sharing our research and exploring synergies with international partners, especially in the realm of traditional medicines/products.” The collaboration between CSIR-IHBT and Taiwanese institutes in areas such as herbal medicines, aromatic plant products, essential oils, and floriculture promises to benefit both India and Taiwan. The visit of CSIR-IHBT delegates to Taipei underscores India’s scientific contributions and strengthens global partnerships aimed at advancing healthcare and scientific knowledge worldwide
