Distribution of fruit plants started at Horticulture Sales Center Mashobra
The Horticulture Department has begun distributing fruit plants at the Mashobra sales center. Subject matter expert Dr. Sharad Gupta stated that approximately 5,300 persimmon (Japanese fruit) and apple plants have arrived in the first phase. These are being distributed to farmers at government rates. Persimmon plants are being provided for ₹150 and apple plants for ₹180.
He said that apple saplings are being distributed directly to the farmers from the department’s PCDO Farm Shilaru, Anu Jubbal and Dutt Nagar Rampur Bushahr Farm.
Dr. Gupta advised farmers to properly prepare the pits in their fields before planting the seedlings. Adding well-rotted cow dung or compost to each pit is beneficial. Proper drainage is also essential, as waterlogging can damage plant roots. For kiwi, prior arrangement of a support system (trellis or bower system) and a balanced planting of male and female plants are essential. Persimmons and plums also require attention to proper spacing, sunlight availability, and plant protection in the early years.
