Death of Worker : SHRC summons report from Union Defense Secy

Himachal Pradesh State Human Rights Commission has summoned a report from the Union Defense Secretary on the complaint of the Umang Foundation regarding the death of a laborer and the injuries of two in an accident on December 10 during a road mishap in Sunni.  The repair work of the road is being done by the company Gref of the Ministry of Defense.
 Commission Chairman Justice PS Rana and Member Dr. Ajay Bhandari have directed the Union Defense Secretary to investigate the matter.  It has been asked to submit the inquiry report to the commission by March 14.
 It is worth mentioning that the trustee of Umang Foundation, Vinod Yogacharya had complained to the commission that three laborers of Gref Company belonging to Border Roads Organization got buried under the debris during the mishap in Swan Kyar (Nauti Khad) of Sunni tehsil. 
 They were not provided with any safety equipment during hazardous work as deceased was working without having a helmet.  
One of these laborers Bhagat Ram son Hariram resident Tehsil Sunni died in the construction work.  Two injured laborers Adam Chand and Bansilal are undergoing treatment.
 Vinod Yogacharya had demanded a probe by the State Human Rights Commission and compensation to the families of the deceased and the injured laborers.  
He has said that a case should also be registered against the errant and guilty officials.
 He said that this criminal negligence of the officials of Gref, a company responsible for the Department like Border Roads Organization (BRO) belonging to the Ministry of Defence, is taking a toll of the poor laborers.
The BRO and GREF are responsible for building and repairing roads of strategic importance leading to the border areas. But due to criminal negligence, there is also loss of life in such accidents.  Guidelines should be issued to stop violation of safety SoPs in the future, he added .
