De-addiction campaign will be made a mass movement: Satyawan Pundir

A state-level meeting was organized in Shimla regarding ‘Material production under the drug de-addiction campaign’ started by Gyan Vigyan Samiti. In this meeting, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Sumitra Chandel in which Gianand Sharma, Urmil Thakur, Dr. Reena Singh, Bhumit Thakur, Yashvinder Dogra were included as members. So that this drug de-addiction campaign can be given the form of a mass movement.
State Secretary Satyawan Pundir informed that on the occasion of ‘International Youth Day on 12th August’, ‘Yuva Samvad’ will be organised and on the occasion of ‘International Literacy Day on 8th September’, a conference will be organised in Shimla in collaboration with various government and non-government organisations, in which further strategy will be prepared by developing understanding on the efforts being made for de-addiction.
He said that in order to speed up this campaign and to mobilize resources, consensus was reached on preparing material for different target groups. Various aspects related to drug abuse such as reduction in supply and demand, therapeutic and rehabilitation system and intervention at policy level were discussed in the meeting. It was also discussed that in this entire process, efforts are being made in the direction of ‘blaming the youth and stigmatizing him by the society and making him a criminal’ which is not a good sign for a healthy society.
He said that along with the creation of the content, Gyan Vigyan Samiti will prepare resource groups at the state level on various areas such as research work, media campaign, cultural aspects, legal aspects so that the campaign can be given wider coverage.
Thaltai’s national general secretary Dr O P Bhureta, Shiv Singh Chandel, state resource center president Dr Kuldeep Tanwar, Sunil Vashisht, district secretary Naveen Sharma etc were present in the meeting.
