CRPF beefs up security cover of disqualified MLAs

In an unprecedented move, Central Reserve Police Forec (CPRF)  beefed up security around the residences of several disqualified MLAs.

This development comes amidst a ongoing political tug-of-war following the Rajya Sabha elections on February 27th.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who successfully evecuated the six Congress MLAs after the cross voting in Rajya sabha election and during Budget session on February 28 now beefed up security cordon on the Nine poltical leader including six disqualified MLAs and three independent MLAs on them and at the residences of independent MLA Ashish Sharma in Hamirpur, and Congress rebels Chaitanya Sharma in Gagret and Devendra Kumar Bhutto in Kutlehar.

Reports suggested that security cover might be extended to the houses of four other disqualified MLAs and two independent MLAs as well. Each MLA residence would reportedly have six CRPF personnel stationed, with two guards on duty in three rotating shifts.

This increased security comes after the six disqualified MLAs, along with three independent MLAs, reportedly shifted from five star hotel Rishikesh to Gurgaon on March 13th.

The disqualification stems from the MLAs’ defiance of the Congress party whip during the Rajya Sabha elections.

They voted in favor of the BJP candidate, Harsh Mahajan, leading to a tie with Congress nominee Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Mahajan eventually secured the seat through a lottery draw.

The disqualified MLAs have challenged their disqualification in the Supreme Court, with the hearing scheduled for March 18th.

The increased security deployment has fueled further debate, with questions arising about its purpose and whether it signifies a potential shift in party allegiance for the MLAs.

Independent MLA Ashish Sharma and Rakesh Sharma, father of disqualified MLA Chaitanya Sharma, are expected to appear at the Baluganj police station in Shimla on March 15th.

This appearance is a condition of their bail granted by the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

This situation highlights the ongoing political volatility in Himachal Pradesh, with the fate of the disqualified MLAs and the upcoming Supreme Court hearing holding significant implications for the state’s political landscape.

It is after 1993 when CRPF were deployed in the state as to curb the employees protest and farmers protest CRPF was called by Shanta Kumar Government.
