Crackdown on Volvo Buses: Himachal Transport Squad Fines 27 Vehicles in a Day

The Himachal Pradesh Transport Department has launched a tough enforcement drive, penalising 27 Volvo buses in a single day for flouting transport rules. The violations ranged from operating without valid permits to evading state taxes and failing to maintain passenger records. The fines collected amounted to nearly ₹4.75 lakh.

The surprise checks were carried out in Una and Hamirpur districts, under the Dharamshala division, by the department’s flying squad. Officials said the team regularly monitors violations across Kangra, Chamba, Una, and Hamirpur, ensuring that passenger safety and compliance are not compromised.

During the latest drive, challans were issued to all 27 buses found guilty of irregularities. Officials confirmed that fines between ₹4.60 lakh and ₹4.64 lakh were collected from the violators.

The Transport Department has made it clear that such enforcement will continue, especially against commercial passenger vehicles operating without proper documentation. Authorities stressed that strict compliance is essential to safeguard passengers and maintain transparency in the transport system.
