Cops get justice waging unprecedented battle
About 5000 police constables mostly lady police who are appointed under a contract system in between 2015 to 2018 in Himachal got justice after waging unprecedented long battle to get special pay band to overcome pay scale anomalies.A notification issued here today on the recent Cabinet decision by Jai Ram Thakur Government today that a special pay band to provide the number of constables who are appointed on contract basis inviolation of police act after the court set aside such contractual appointment . Notification signed by Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Prabodh Saxena said that such constable who appointed in the police service after January 1, 2015 were facing difference of about 18 thousand rupees in the salary compared to other police employees recruited earlier would get special pay band. DGP Sanjay Kundu also constitued a department Committee on 5 December 2021 regarding the revised pay band. Committee report revealed that the police personnel recruited after 2015 will be given a scale of 10,300-34,800 against earlier provision of grade 3200 to them. Notification also approved to increase the allowance of at least two thousand per month in the ration allowance of the soldiers. There was also a recommendation to include one month’s additional salary in the new pay scale to the police personnel who give duty 24-7 hours.Before this notification, these police personnel did not get the benefit of the new pay scale for 8 years. In the notification issued by the government, the government has placed the constable rank personnel in the pay band of 5910-20,200 and 10,300-34,800. Whereas the grade pay has been fixed at 1900 and 3200 respectively. After completing the period of two years, the employees will get the benefit of pay band and grade pay. This benefit has also been extended to other constable rank employees.It is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had made this announcement on 25 January 2022 in the state level program of Solan on the occasion of Statehood Day. But due to non-issuance of notification, uneasiness was increasing among the police personnel.
