Consumers to get free ration under NFSA from 1st January, 2023

A spokesperson of the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said here today that the Central Government has extended the National Food Security Act (NFSA) to the consumers from 1st January, 2023 to December, 2023.

 He said that it has been decided to make available the ration free of cost to the NFSA consumers. Earlier these consumers used to get wheat at Rs. two per kg, fortified wheat at Rs. 3.20 per kg and rice at Rs. three per Kg. Now the Centre Government has decided to provide above mentioned food grains free of cost to the NFSA. He said that the consumers only have to pay the cost of converting this wheat into flour. He said that for this purpose the consumers have to spend Rs. 1.20 per kg.

 The Spokesperson further said that orders have been issued in this regard to all the fair price shopkeepers through the District Food and Civil Supply Controller. He also urged the consumers to collect the food grain under NFSA from the fair price shopkeeper from 1st January, 2023. For any complaint or query consumers can contact the department’s Toll free Number- 1967.

He informed that at present there are 5155 fair price shops and 121 godowns in the state. There are 1962932 card holders in the state, out of which 752849 are registered under NFSA. He said that 3040402 persons in the state are NFSA beneficiaries.
