Congress government running away from Panchayati Raj elections: Trilok

BJP state senior Trilok Jamwal said that the Congress party and its leaders appear to be running away from the Panchayat Raj elections. The Himachal Pradesh government is taking one step after another, clearly indicating that they want to postpone the Panchayat Raj elections by two years.

He said that first the Cabinet proposed moving forward with the Panchayati Raj scheme, then a direct confrontation with the Election Commission, citing incomplete voter lists, the government repeatedly claiming that elections cannot be held because the census has not been conducted, and then the inclusion of Town and Country Planning in the electoral process. We have already encountered numerous such examples.

He said that it has become unbearable. The Deputy Commissioners of several districts in the state have written to the Panchayat Raj Secretary to postpone the elections. They cited damage to private and government property, roads, and paths due to the disaster. It was explained that various works have been initiated under MNREGA. In the current circumstances, Panchayat Raj elections are not practical. The administration and department employees are busy with disaster relief work. In light of this, the government has been requested to issue the necessary orders under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act. Trilok said that this is only possible if the head of the government issues such orders.

He said that this is likely the reason why the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh was given additional responsibilities. This allows the government to achieve its goals by constantly pressuring government employees. It’s clear that if elections were held today, the Congress party would not receive any votes. This is a major reason why the Congress party wants to flee the Panchayat Raj elections, as they face a crushing defeat in these elections.

Elections are scheduled for the state’s 3,615 panchayats and 73 municipal bodies this year. However, given the current situation, these elections appear unlikely to be held on time, as the state government has yet to implement a reservation roster despite Election Commission orders. This type of dictatorship won’t last long. Hold the elections today or tomorrow, and the government will face a crushing defeat.
