Chill Returns to Himachal: Rain and Snow Forecasted

The weather in Himachal Pradesh is finally stirring, bringing hope to farmers, orchardists, and the tourism industry. From today, higher mountain regions may see light rain and snowfall, while the plains and mid-altitude areas remain clear for now. The Meteorological Department has hinted at a bigger change in the coming days, with widespread rain and snow expected across the state.

Cold Wave Alert

The chill isn’t easing yet. A yellow alert has been issued for January 19 and 20, warning of cold wave conditions in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Mandi. Morning and evening hours will be particularly harsh, affecting daily life.

Upcoming Weather Predictions

  • January 22: Light to moderate rain and snow in high and mid-altitude areas; plains may see light showers.
  • January 23: Widespread rain and snow in high-altitude regions, with heavy spells at a few places. Yellow alert in effect. Mid-altitude areas will also see rain and snow, while plains may get scattered showers.
  • January 24: Continued light to moderate rain and snow in most high and mid-altitude areas; plains may see light rain at isolated spots.

Impact on Agriculture and Tourism

This winter has been unusually dry. Farmers are struggling with wheat sowing, and orchardists worry about apple and fruit crops that depend on snowfall. Tourism too has taken a hit, with visitors missing the charm of snow-covered landscapes. All eyes are now on the skies, waiting for nature’s relief.
