Central government has provided assistance of more than Rs 5800 Cr so far: Suresh Kashyap

Former BJP State President and MP Suresh Kashyap said that the Central Government has provided substantial assistance to Himachal Pradesh during every disaster. So far, the state has received relief funds totaling over ₹5,800 crore, demonstrating that the Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has stood firmly with Himachal. He said that the BJP is grateful to the Central Government, which has never abandoned Himachal during times of disaster.

Suresh Kashyap said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda have spared no effort for Himachal Pradesh. Whether it was the devastating disaster of 2023 or the disasters of 2025, the central government has made prompt decisions and provided generous assistance for relief and rehabilitation.

He said that at the end of the year, the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has received some welcome news from the central government. The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has released the second installment of ₹601.92 crore for disaster relief and rehabilitation. An office memorandum has been issued in this regard, and the Reserve Bank of India has been directed to immediately transfer this amount to the state government’s treasury.

MP Kashyap stated that this relief amount was released from the Recovery and Reconstruction Window of the National Disaster Response Fund under the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA). This is the second installment totaling ₹601.92 crore. The central government had previously released the first installment of over ₹400 crore to Himachal. Following the 2023 disaster, the central team assessed losses in Himachal under the PDNA at over ₹9,300 crore, based on which the central government approved a total assistance of ₹1,504.80 crore.

He said that the 2023 disaster claimed the lives of more than 500 people in the state and caused damage to government property worth over 10,000 crore rupees. In 2025, disasters also affected thousands of people and resulted in 454 deaths, a large number of which were related to road accidents, floods, and landslides.

Suresh Kashyap said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced assistance of ₹1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh this year as well and personally conducted an aerial survey of Himachal in September to assess the situation. He said that this second installment of ₹601.92 crore released under the PDNA will accelerate ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the state.

He stated unequivocally that while the Congress government has been playing politics of blaming the central government, the truth is that the central government has generously assisted Himachal Pradesh in every disaster. This is clear evidence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sensitive leadership and the BJP government’s commitment to Himachal.
