Breathing New Life into Himachal’s Heritage Hotels: A Fresh Start for Tourism

In a promising move to uplift tourism and preserve the charm of Himachal Pradesh’s hospitality, the state government has decided to revamp 14 of its Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) units by running them on an operation and maintenance (O&M) basis. This initiative is aimed at reviving loss-making hotels and enhancing the experience for visitors.

The decision, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and formalized by the HPTDC Board of Directors, reflects a commitment to better upkeep, improved services, and financial sustainability. The Principal Secretary of Tourism has already directed the Managing Director of HPTDC to roll out the plan within three months.

The hotels set to benefit from this transformation include scenic and strategically located properties such as Hotel Hill Top in Swarghat, Hotel Lakeview in Bilaspur, Hotel Apple Blossom in Fagu, and Kashmir House in Dharamshala, among others. These locations, rich in natural beauty and cultural significance, are poised to become more welcoming and well-maintained for tourists.

By reducing the financial strain on the corporation and raising service standards, the government hopes to attract more visitors, boost the local economy, and ensure that Himachal’s hospitality reflects the warmth and beauty of the region.
