Breaking all previous records- Higher reaches of Himachal experiencing summer snow

2023’s month of May and June scripted history as it broke all previous records of rain, temperature, and snowfall.

According to Met Office high reaches of Shimla and 13000 ft(4550 meters) Chanshal peak had around two feet of fresh snowfall in the intervening night of June 1 and 2.

There are reports that the state is in the grip of the unprecedented cold wave as people have to wear wollen clothes to brave the cold.

Reports coming from other high reaches also said that light to moderate spells of snowfall also occurred in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts.

Shimla summer festival was washed by rainfall as inclement weather conditions continue in the town. The maximum temperature of Shimla was 18 degrees and 8 to nine degrees below normal.

Continued rain also helped to end the shortage of water in the state as all water sources and rivers are flowing at normal levels.

Continue wet weather and ample water discharge at the source and continued rainfall and Western disturbance also helped the farmers to not irrigate their farms and end the summer shortage of water.

There is sufficient soil moisture for early sawing of Kharif crops in the state and it would pick up a month earlier. However, incidences of fungal diseases and viral diseases have increased in the off-season vegetables and ripening of pome and stone fruits.

Met Office forecast rain and snowfall in isolated places in high reaches and moderate spell of rain and thundershowers at many places in the middle hills and a few places high reaches and foothills.
