Braving the Storm: HPSEB Teams Work Tirelessly to Restore Electricity Amid Heavy Snow

As a severe cold wave and heavy snowfall grip Himachal Pradesh, residents are facing challenging conditions. In the midst of this, the dedicated teams of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) are working round the clock to keep the lights on.

Board Spokesperson Anurag Prasher shared that, given the state’s extreme weather, Chairman Prabodh Saxena is personally overseeing the restoration efforts. He has been in constant touch with field teams to monitor progress and ensure their safety.

Chairman Saxena recently held a video conference with senior field officers, directing them to prioritize restoring power in affected areas. He stressed the importance of worker safety, instructing officials to urgently provide snow gear and safety kits to all field staff braving the hazardous conditions.

To speed up the work, the Chairman emphasized maintaining ready stocks of essential materials like electricity poles. He has also asked senior engineers to be on the ground, personally visiting sites to supervise the restoration operations.

The Scale of the Challenge

The task is immense. Anurag Prasher reported that strong winds and heavy snowfall disrupted 13,303 transformers across the state just on Thursday morning. Despite the adverse and risky conditions, crews have successfully restored 2,919 transformers so far, with work continuing on the rest.

In the Shimla zone alone, 431 transformers were affected across six divisions. Power has been restored to 119 of them, and teams are persevering to bring normalcy back to the remaining areas.
