BJP government is weakening MNREGA : Jagat Negi
Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi has accused the central BJP government of weakening MNREGA by changing its name and amending it. He said that after stealing votes nationwide, the BJP is now attempting to steal the employment guarantee for unemployed people in rural areas. Congress will never allow this to succeed. Congress has launched a nationwide public awareness campaign against this under the slogan “Save MNREGA.”
Addressing a press conference organized by District Shimla Urban at the State Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, today, Jagat Singh Negi said that the former UPA government, after extensive discussions with all parties in the name of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, legalized this employment guarantee by passing it in the Lok Sabha. This legislation, known as MNREGA, strengthened Panchayati Raj institutions in rural areas and accelerated regional development. Today, in its new form, this right has been taken away from the Panchayats, and the central government has now assumed full control. Now, the central government will decide which work is to be done. He said that for the past 12 years, the BJP government at the center has weakened the government’s work. The state government has not received the full amount of funds that were supposed to come from the center. He added that the state’s MNREGA dues of 400 crore rupees are still pending with the center.
Jagat Singh Negi accused the BJP of renaming more than two dozen schemes launched by the former Congress government at the Centre and attempting to pass them off as its own. He said that removing the name of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi from MNREGA is a grave insult to him and cannot be tolerated. The BJP is misleading the public and changing the names of schemes for political gain. This will not benefit it in any way.
