Atwal given additional charge of Himachal DGP

Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to hand over the charge of Director General of Himachal Pradesh Police to 1996 batch lady IPS Satwant Atwal as it has removed the incumbent DGP as Principal Secretary Ayush on the order passed by Himachal Pradesh High Court on December 26, the high court had directed state to post Sanjay Kundu and Superintendent of police Kangra Shalini Agnihotri on other posts.

After a meeting held at the state secretariat in Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, and Secretary Personnel and Home decided to give charge of former DGP Kundu to  Satwant Atwal.

In place of Sanjay Kundu, 1996 batch IPS officer Satwant Atwal has been appointed as acting DGP. Satwant currently holds the charge of ADGP in State Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau and CID. 

Replying to media queries regarding the shifting of DGP Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu stated that Sanjay Kundu has not been removed but promoted.  He does not want to say anything in this matter, but the government has followed the orders of the High Court.

 Sanjay Kundu has served the state for 35 years. His image is clean. To ensure a fair investigation into the matter, Kundu has been removed from the post of DGP and appointed as Principal Secretary, he added.

The Congress government led by CM Sukhwinder Sukhu took this decision in this regard on Tuesday morning and decided to shift Kundu as principal secretary Ayush on the direction of Himachal Pradesh High Court in a matter of Suo moto cognizance.
