Artificial intelligence to be employed by Himachal Police to regulate vehicular traffic 

To watch on the vehicular traffic and violation of rules state police traffic unit is employing eagled eye of Artificial intelligence in the state.

According to a press release issued by the state police headquarters stated that around one lakh challans were issued for violation of motor vehicle rules through Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras in the current year 2023 in the state.

 Currently, 49 ITMS cameras have been installed at selected places on national highways and state roads in Himachal Pradesh.  

In the current year, a total of 104268 challans have been issued for violations under the Vehicle Act by these Artificial Intelligence cameras without human intervention. 

 There has been an increase in the challans made through ITMS in the last month. 

 The AI ​​cameras to check traffic violations in Himachal are powered by electricity and will use 4G LTE technology to send data to the control room.

 Initially, the AI ​​cameras will detect violations like riding a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet, traveling without wearing a seat belt, traveling with more than two people on a two-wheeler, using mobile phones while driving, and red light violations.​ “

  The “fully automated traffic enforcement system” will inform the vehicle owner about the traffic violation through e-mail and mobile phone SMS within 24 hours of the alleged offense.  

The traffic challan would contain photographic evidence, time, and place of the violation.  The fine ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000. One system could store up to three months of video footage.
