Anurag Thakur to Launch Initiative from Dharamshala in Response to Modi Ji’s Call to Bring 1 Lakh Youth into Politics

21st January 2026, Himachal Pradesh: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has been a proponent of increasing youth participation in Indian politics and has, from various platforms, called for bringing 1 lakh youth into politics who are not from families with an active political background. Yesterday, after the election of the BJP’s new National President Shri Nitin Nabin, the Prime Minister reiterated this point.

In line with this vision, former Union Minister and MP from Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, is set to launch a Leadership Fellowship Program from Dharamshala on the upcoming 23rd of January. The objective is to prepare the youth of Himachal Pradesh for politics, policy, and to nurture the next generation of leaders. Under this program, the first phase will involve a dialogue session and a dinner meeting with senior journalists, esteemed institutions, and Gen-Z influencers.

Elaborating on the program, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur said, “Respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has appealed from various forums to bring 1,00,000 youth into politics. With the aim of bringing the youth of Himachal Pradesh into politics, enhancing their understanding of policy, preparing the next generation of leaders, and strengthening their regional and national participation, I have decided to start a Leadership Fellowship Program. This Leadership Fellowship program is a unique initiative of its kind, aiming to equip thousands of youth from Himachal Pradesh with the necessary skills, understanding, and leadership qualities to make a positive impact on society. In this context, during a pleasant meeting in Delhi with the State officials and District Presidents of the BJP Himachal Yuva Morcha, we discussed the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji to bring 1 lakh youth into politics, increasing youth participation in social life, and harnessing the energy of the youth for nation-building.”

Shri Anurag Thakur added, “We can consider this program as a means to prepare the next generation of leadership that is politically skilled, governance-efficient, policy-savvy, and socially sensitive. This initiative is a step towards preparing responsible, sensible, and confident youth for society who can contribute to nation-building. Today, India is the youngest nation in the world. We consider the strength of our youth as the country’s greatest asset. With this belief and confidence, we are progressing in every field, and the Modi government is formulating many policies keeping the youth in focus. ‘My India’ (Mera Yuva Bharat), aimed at empowering the youth of the country to contribute to nation-building, has emerged as a historic initiative of the central government. This platform is providing new opportunities for service work, leadership, and skill development to the youth of the country. To channel the energy of Himachal’s youth in the right direction and to provide them with maximum opportunities, through my personal efforts, I have been consistently running programs like MP Sports Mahakumbh, MP Bharat Darshan, and ‘Ek Se Shreshth’.”
