Air Link to Chandigarh & Rampur: Shimla’s Sanjauli Helipad Set to Ease Travel & Boost Tourism

Shimla is gearing up for smoother and faster air travel as flights to Chandigarh and Rampur will soon take off from the Sanjauli helipad. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared the exciting update on Friday after securing approval from the Union Civil Aviation Minister during a meeting in Delhi.

This new air service promises to be a game-changer—not just for tourists but also for locals in emergencies. Patients needing urgent medical care in Chandigarh, for instance, will no longer have to endure the long, treacherous road journey. Instead, they’ll have a quicker and safer alternative.

Developed under the Centre’s UDAN (Regional Connectivity) Scheme, the Sanjauli heliport has been ready for action, equipped with essential passenger and security facilities. However, it had been awaiting the final nod from authorities. Now, with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) having completed inspections, only a few procedural formalities remain before flights begin.

For Himachal Pradesh, where winding roads and unpredictable weather often delay travel, improved air connectivity could be transformative. It’s expected to boost tourism, support the local economy, and—most importantly—provide lifeline access to healthcare for remote communities.
