Administration bans carrying arms, ammunition in Solan district

With the announcement of Lok Sabha-2024 general elections today by the Election Commission of India, the Model Code of Conduct has been implemented with immediate effect in the entire Solan district. 

Given this, orders have been issued by District Magistrate Solan Manmohan Sharma under Section 144 of CrPC.

According to the orders, to complete the process of general elections of 18th Lok Sabha-2024 in a free, fair, smooth and peaceful manner, any kind of arms and ammunition will be prohibited from the announcement of elections till the declaration of results as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. There will be an immediate ban on carrying etc.

Orders have also been issued to ensure all necessary measures to maintain law and order on the border of Haryana and Punjab bordering Solan district so that the process of Lok Sabha general elections can be conducted peacefully and smoothly.

Under the orders, all people, citizens, organizations, and NGOs will be prohibited from carrying any type of arms and ammunition etc. as defined under the Arms Act, 1959 within the limits of District Solan.

 This order will not apply to police, paramilitary forces, security forces, government, semi-government or banks, and other authorized security personnel on duty.

To maintain law and order during the election process, the District Magistrate has also ordered all the license holders to deposit their weapons in the respective police stations or arms and ammunition dealers or District Malkhana. Separate orders will also be issued by the committee formed in this regard.

These orders will be considered effective with immediate effect and will remain valid till the completion of the election process. Legal action will be taken against those who disobey these orders.
