A state-level training on GST was organized in HIPA

Mrs. Poonam Thakur (HPRS), Assistant Commissioner, State Tax and Excise Shimla, conducted a state-level training program on Goods and Services Tax (GST) provisions at the Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration (HIPA). She provided a comprehensive overview of GST and its implementation, emphasizing key provisions that directly affect the operations of Khadi and Village Industries. Participants were thoroughly educated on the basics and advanced concepts of GST, including:

  • E-Way Bill: The process of electronically preparing the document required for the movement of goods under GST, ensuring transparency and ease of tracking.
  • E-Invoicing: An automated system for generating invoices in compliance with GST standards, simplifying tax returns, and ensuring real-time tracking.
  • TDS Provisions under GST: Important guidelines regarding tax deduction at source, aimed at streamlining the tax collection process and ensuring compliance with legal norms.

The session was tailored to address the specific challenges and needs of the Khadi and Village Industries sector, helping stakeholders navigate the complexities of tax laws with clarity and confidence. The training proved to be highly interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and raising relevant questions related to their businesses. Questions ranging from the application of GST rules in small-scale industries to the implications of e-invoicing were extensively addressed by Poonam Thakur. Her practical responses not only dispelled doubts but also provided stakeholders with actionable solutions to common issues faced in their day-to-day operations.

Tax advisor Mr. Rakesh Sharma conducted a session on direct and indirect taxation systems and addressed questions. His session covered key aspects of income tax, corporate tax, and related compliance measures, presenting a comprehensive view of the Indian taxation system. The direct tax training provided participants with actionable knowledge on tax planning, compliance, and filing processes, essential for the financial health and legal standing of their enterprises.

Mrs. Poonam Thakur emphasized the importance of such training programs, stating that they help ensure businesses, especially in rural and traditional sectors like Khadi and Village Industries, comply with tax laws while benefiting from schemes designed for them. She also highlighted the department’s commitment to creating a tax-friendly environment that supports the growth of local industries.

The training concluded with participants expressing gratitude for the comprehensive coverage of both GST and direct tax topics. They appreciated the efforts of the State Tax and Excise Department and HPKVIB in organizing such an informative session, which not only empowered them with knowledge but also helped clarify various concerns related to tax regulations.

This initiative is part of the State Tax and Excise Department’s broader effort to promote tax literacy and ensure seamless implementation of tax laws across all regions of Himachal Pradesh. Mr. Prashant Sirkeck (HAS), Additional Director HIPA cum CEO Himachal Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board, and course coordinator Mr. Dinesh Sharma were present on this occasion.
