A Sacred Celebration of Peace and Prayer: Kinnaur Honors the Dalai Lama’s 90th Birthday with Eight Days of Devotion

In the serene village of Rarang, nestled in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district, an eight-day chanting of the Vajra Guru Mantra concluded with heartfelt reverence and community spirit. The event, held from August 27 to September 3 at the Tashi Choeling Buddhist Monastery, was a tribute to the 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Led by Chogon Rinpoche Tenzin Choekyi Gyatso and graced by the presence of the local deity Pathoro Dombar, the gathering brought together hundreds of lamas, jomos, and devotees from across the region. On September 2, the community also commemorated the 27th Mahaparinirvana Day of Ga Rinpoche Shedrup Choekyi Nyima, with spiritual discourses on Gyal-stras Lag-len by Acharya Asang and blessings for long life.

RP Negi, a local resident, shared that the Rinpoche’s message emphasized harmony with nature, the pursuit of virtue, and the importance of peace and prosperity. The final day was a vibrant celebration, featuring traditional Singhe dances and performances by school children, reflecting the deep cultural roots and unity of the community.

The event was lovingly organized by the Vajra Guru Seva Committee and the villagers of Rarang, turning a spiritual milestone into a beautiful expression of collective devotion and joy.
