A New Leash on Life: Surgeons Perform Miracle Surgery to Save Wild Sambhar

In an inspiring tale of compassion and cutting-edge medicine, a team of dedicated veterinarians in Una has given a severely injured wild sambhar deer a second chance at life.

The young sambhar was discovered in a local forest, badly wounded after an attack by another animal. Its jaw, teeth, and bones were shattered, leaving it struggling to survive.

Acting quickly on a tip from concerned locals, the Forest Department rushed the deer to the Multidimensional Veterinary Hospital in Laldi with the help of Radha Madhav Gaushala. Upon arrival, the situation was critical.

“The animal was swinging between life and death due to excessive bleeding and trouble breathing,” said veterinary surgeon Dr. Manoj Sharma. Recognizing the urgency, Dr. Sharma and his team, including Dr. Navneet and Dr. Neha, declared an emergency and prepared for an immediate and complex plastic surgery.

The procedure was a remarkable feat. The team artificially managed the deer’s breathing for two hours while they worked. They rebuilt damaged nerves, connected broken jaw bones using grafts from other parts of the body, and renewed the jaw skin through plastic surgery.

“This is more than a medical achievement,” Dr. Sharma noted. “It’s a powerful example of animal welfare and what modern veterinary science can accomplish. We’ve given a little life a new beginning.”
