895 cases of crime against women registers in Himachal

Police is deeply concerned about the crime against women as total 895 cases have been registered in the State of HP against the sexual offenders. Spokesperson of state police revealed it in an analysis of rape cases for the last three years (2020, 2021&2022 till date)  here today. The  offenders involved in the crime are mostly known to the victims. From the analysis of 895 rape cases, sexual offenders involved in cases have been identified . It is apparent from the above information that 52.4  per cent  rape cases committed by the known person, 24.4 pc committed during friendship 16.9 pc committed due to false promise of marriage, 4.1 oc committed during live in relationship and 02 pc have been committed by unknown persons. Most of the above noted cases are avoidable. To curb such crimes awareness programmes in Panchyati Raj Institutions and Educational Institutes are being organized/sensitize throughout the State. For the redressal of grievances of women, police department has established women help desk number 1091.Eleven Women Police Stations have also been made functional in all districts of HP except Lahul Spiti, Kinnaur and Police District Nurpur. On apprehension of sexual assault or harassment victim may report to the nearest Women Police Stations or women help desk number to prevent such crime. Police department has also started scheme known as “Veerangna on wheel” throughout the state for combating crime against women. Citizen groups and NGO should be encouraged to increase awareness in the society.
