Harsh Mahajan thanked Central government for approving funds of various developemental schemes
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan said that the Himachal Chief Minister is merely trying to bask in the praise for the money coming from the central government. These days, the Chief Minister is making grand announcements, but we want to ask him where that money came from. Is it Himachal Pradesh’s earnings or is it central funding? The current Congress government has increased the burden on the people of Himachal but has failed to use that income for development. The only money being used for development is the funds approved and sent to Himachal by the central government.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and, in a scathing attack on the Chief Minister, stated that the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh met with the Honorable Union Health Minister on May 22, 2025. During the meeting, he held extensive discussions with Nadda, who took immediate action on those discussions. He requested his intervention to expedite the approval of a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) loan proposal to strengthen statewide healthcare facilities in Himachal Pradesh. This demonstrates the proactiveness of the Central Government and the Union Minister, and their seriousness towards Himachal Pradesh.
Harsh Mahajan said that the proposal is worth Rs 1422 crore, out of which external assistance is Rs 1138 crore (80%) and state assistance is Rs 284 crore.
The Department of Economic Affairs approved the proposal on June 30, 2025, with an external assistance loan of ₹1,138 crore from JICA. The Government of India will bear a loan of ₹1,024.2 crore, which will be given to Himachal Pradesh as a grant. Himachal Pradesh will only have to bear a loan of ₹113.8 crore.
Drawing attention to the key developments in Himachal Pradesh, Mahajan said that strengthening and upgrading of medical colleges is a priority.
Hamirpur, Nahan, Mandi, Tanda, Chamba, IGMC Shimla – approximately Rs 650 crore,
3 Tesla MRI machines at Hamirpur, Tanda, Shimla, Nerchowk Medical Colleges
Robotic surgery equipment in medical colleges like the High Energy Linear Accelerator (LINAC) in Mandi and Chamba, the establishment of a cancer hospital in Hamirpur at a cost of ₹300 crore, model health institutions in 67 locations, and health digitization. The central government is behind all this, and the Himachal Pradesh government has no contribution.
