60K tourists evacuated from flood-affected areas: Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed satisfaction over ongoing rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected Kullu and Lahaul Spiti district stating that 60,000 Tourist who had been stranded in flood-affected Kullu and Lahaul Spiti district were evacuated.

Mr. Sukhu is quoted on Social media posting that until 0900 hrs today, a total of 60,000 stranded tourists have been successfully evacuated from Himachal Pradesh.

 The chief minister currently stationed in Kullu for the past three days, looking after the ongoing rescue operations.

On July 9 and 10 heavy rainfall and subsequent flash flood situation trapped and stranded Tourists in their vehicles and hospitality units as most of the road washed away and faced rolling down of heavy boulders,  mud, and landslide. After passing five days restoration work couldn’t proceed as it was affected by continued Monsoon rain and inspated rivers. 88 People died and 100 were injured and many thousands were stranded and marooned.
