1986 Asian Games medalist joins Congress
19860 Asian Game Bronze medal winners abd athelete Suman Rawat Mehta plunged in the game of politics after joining Congress party here today. Ms Rawat father in-law is BJP workers but she decided to take different Poltical course. She retired from the post of Director of HP Youth Services and Sports Department, expressed his faith in the leadership of Himachal Pradesh Congress President MP Pratibha Singh and joined the Congress party today.
On this occasion, the State Congress President gave her the party flag and filled the membership form and wished Suman Rawat Mehta good luck for his bright future in the Congress party. She said that Suman Rawat has been a well-known runner not only of Himachal Pradesh but of the country and has brought laurels to the country and the state in many national and international competitions. She said that the coming of Suman Rawat to the Congress party will strengthen the party.After taking membership of the Congress party, Suman Rawat Mehta said that the Congress party has made an important contribution in developing the advanced India from the freedom struggle to the present. Today women are waving their flag in every field due to the policies of Congress party and strong and visionary thinking. Describing the late Virbhadra Singh, who was the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh for six times, Suman Rawat said that due to the inspiration of Virbhadra Singh she was able to make a different identity in the sports world. Rawat said that in maintaining the unity and integrity of the country, influenced by the ideology of the Congress party, I have joined the party and will work for the strength of the Congress party under the leadership of Smt. Pratibha Singh in future, She said
It is worth mentioning that Suman Rawat, who was awarded the Arjuna Award, has been a bronze medalist in the Asian Games in the 3000 meters race in the year 1986 and was the undefeated national champion continuously from 1980 to 1994. After that, in spite of becoming a daughter’s, after completing 42 kilometer run in 24 days, she made Himachal’s name bright by registering her name in Limca Book of World Records. Won three gold medals in South Asian Federation and 87 national and international gold medals, 39 silver and 104 bronze.
