Healing on Two Wheels: How an E-Scooty is Bringing Hope to Sarkaghat’s Doorstep

In the quiet lanes and surrounding villages of Sarkaghat, a new, silent vehicle is becoming a beacon of health and hope. It’s not an ambulance with blaring sirens, but a humble, green e-scooty, driven by a dedicated counselor, carrying essential medicines and compassion directly to those who need it most.

This initiative is transforming lives by ensuring that critical healthcare for diseases like HIV, TB, and Hepatitis isn’t confined to the hospital walls. For many in remote areas, the journey to a clinic is a major hurdle. Now, that hurdle is being overcome by bringing the care directly to their doorstep.

The story of this e-scooty begins with a powerful vision from Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who believes that “no one should be deprived of essential treatment.” It’s one of 12 such scooties handed over to health workers, representing a innovative and heartfelt approach to public health. This isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about human connection. The model ensures that care is continuous, timely, and kinder to the environment—a small but significant step towards a greener, healthier state.

The real impact, however, is measured in human stories. For counselors like Sonu Kumar, who has served at the Civil Hospital’s ICTC center for 18 years, this e-scooty has been a game-changer.

“Before, reaching every patient was a challenge. Now, I can do so much more,” Sonu explains, his voice filled with enthusiasm. “I can counsel patients, deliver their medications, and be a reassuring presence. For patients who are too weak or unable to travel, this service isn’t just convenient—it’s a lifeline.”

Beyond his daily visits, Sonu is also part of a larger statewide awareness campaign running until October 12th, engaging communities through school rallies, street plays, and art. His heartfelt plea, especially to the youth, is simple yet vital: “Please, take charge of your health. Get voluntary check-ups. It’s the first step towards prevention and a healthier life.”

This initiative in Sarkaghat is more than a government program; it’s a testament to how technology, when guided by human empathy, can create profound change. It’s a story of a community drawing closer, one quiet ride at a time.
